Best US Weekend Trips In Spring
Here are 27 of the best brief vacation getaways in springtime in the United States. They are all within a 2 hours drive of a significant airport, although most are much more closer so that you spend more time at your holiday destination rather than traveling to it.
For each place, I have highlighted the best things to do as well as what kind of spring weather you can expect in March, April and May. Finally, I have asked other travel bloggers where they would recommend staying to help with your travel planning.
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Santa Fe, New Mexico, is one of the best southern cities to visit during a springtime weekend getaway in the United States. It’s a magnet for art lovers, history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, foodies, margarita mavens, and chocoholics.
Although a great place to explore any time of year, Santa Fe is particularly attractive in the spring when the flowers are blooming. You’ll have far fewer tourists to contend with than in the prime summer months, giving you an opportunity for a more relaxed visit and an authentic experience that locals cherish. An added bonus is significantly cheaper lodging.
Santa Fe is the nation’s oldest capital, dating back to 1610, and the downtown Santa Fe Plaza is a National Landmark. Here you’ll find The Palace of the Governors, the oldest building in continuous use in the US.
A few blocks away is the oldest church in the US, San Miguel Chapel, and a little further, the oldest house in New Mexico. The city’s greatest concentration of historic adobe architecture is also downtown.
Santa Fe is home to the Georgia O’Keefe Museum, the New Mexico Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, to name just three of the city’s top draws for art lovers.
In addition, every Memorial Day Weekend, the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture hosts a spectacular event featuring works created by over 200 Indigenous artists and highlighted by an auction.
The best restaurants in Santa Fe are located near the Plaza. Many, like The Shed and Tia Sophia’s, serve amazing New Mexican food specialties.
Santa Fe is also considered the Margarita Capital of the World, boasting a margarita trail that leads to the best of these luscious libations. There’s also a trail featuring decadent chocolate delights, including those made with local ingredients like chiles and prickly pears.
Weather
Average high temperatures in March are 55°F, in April are 63°F, and in May are about 72°F, with considerably colder nights, especially in March and April, when lows can dip to the high 20s and low 30s.
It is, however, blissfully dry, with only 2 or 3 days of precipitation per month this time of year and mostly sunny skies.
Best Way To Reach Destination
Getting to Santa Fe is easy, with Santa Fe Municipal Airport offering national and international flights, and only a 20-minute drive from downtown.
Best Place To Stay
Denise from Chef Denise says, “Enjoy a stay at the historic La Fonda on the Plaza, the only hotel on the plaza, and you’ll be able to walk to most of Santa Fe’s best sights, restaurants, and attractions.”
Newport, Rhode Island
Newport, Rhode Island is a picturesque destination for a spring long weekend on the east coast of the USA. Boasting 400 miles of shoreline with beaches from family-friendly to secluded, and countless attractions such as the International Tennis Hall of Fame and National Museum of American Illustration, visitors can enjoy the stunning Gilded Age mansions, nautical boutiques, and world-class sailing. There’s something for everyone in this timeless town.
Start your visit in Newport with a drive along Ocean Drive. Ocean Drive takes you on an incredible 10-mile journey along some of the most beautiful coastline views in New England.
On your drive, enjoy public access shorelines for activities like swimming, fishing, and kite flying. Make sure to plan a stop at Fort Adams State Park, Gooseberry Beach, yacht clubs and Castle Hill Inn and Resort.
The Cliff Walk is another must-do while in Newport. This 3.5 mile walk takes you along the seashore with stunning views of the coastline and Newport’s gorgeous mansions.
The Breakers Mansion is an iconic Gilded Age summer “cottage” of the Vanderbilt family, completed in 1895. The grand house, fully furnished with original pieces from throughout Europe and America, offers self-guided tours every day to give visitors a glimpse into the opulence of the time when these families vacationed in Newport.
Off-season in the spring is a great way to catch some beautiful New England weather but without the summer crowds. Perfect for a peaceful walk along the beach.
Weather
March and April offer 45°F-55°F temperatures. There are some lingering winter conditions with rain. May is by far the best month and offers beautiful spring weather in the 60s and 70s Fahrenheit before the crowds emerge, although you can still expect around 3 inches of rain over 9 days.
Best Way To Reach Destination
To reach Newport, fly into Providence Rhode Island’s TF Green International Airport which is 40 minutes away.
Best Place To Stay
Sierra from Your Guide To Wandering says, “Newport offers dozens of historic homes for rent. Check out Town and Tide Inn, or Serenity Inn for local breakfasts, historic details and close proximity to the beaches and downtown.”
San Francisco, California
San Francisco is a vibrant city in Northern California on the west coast of the USA, renowned for its iconic landmarks, stunning bay views, and diverse cultural neighborhoods.
The number one thing to do in San Francisco is to visit the famous Golden Gate Bridge. You can walk or bike across the bridge or go to the various nearby vista points for panoramic views.
For more breathtaking views, take one of the popular San Francisco Bay cruises to see the city skyline, San Francisco Bay, and Golden Gate Bridge.
Visiting Alcatraz Island, a former federal prison, is a popular tourist attraction and definitely a cool thing to see. Before or after picking up your ferry to the prison, spend time exploring Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39. They are bustling with seafood restaurants and souvenir shops.
Weather
During the spring, San Francisco experiences a mix of sunny and rainy days, so it’s advisable to carry layers and be prepared for changing weather conditions.
In March, the average temperature in San Francisco ranges from 50°F to 63°F. April sees slightly warmer temperatures, averaging between 52°F and 66°F. By May, the weather becomes milder, with temperatures ranging from 54°F to 69°F.
In general, San Francisco is a bit windy as it is a coastal city. The beaches here tend to be a little cold, so dressing in layers is the best way to go.
Best Way To Reach Destination
San Francisco International Airport serves most major cities in the US with direct flights, thus making it very easy to reach to spend a weekend in San Francisco from almost anywhere in the US. The San Francisco airport is only around 15-20 minutes drive from the main city.
Best Place To Stay
Anu from Destination Checkoff says, “The best place to stay for your weekend getaway would be in the Fisherman’s Wharf area, which has a lot of tourist attractions nearby. San Francisco Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf is in a great central location and an ideal place to stay.”
New York City, New York
If you’re looking for the perfect east coast city for a short city break in springtime, consider spending a couple of days in New York. Spring is perfect for visiting the Big Apple, as the temperatures are starting to warm up and shoulder season brings fewer crowds and lower prices.
If you’re visiting NYC on a sunny, spring day, there’s no better place to spend some time than Central Park. If you’re lucky, you might be able to catch the park’s cherry blossoms which typically start to bloom in April. Loeb Boathouse on the Lake also opens for boat rentals in April.
Although temperatures are beginning to warm up in the spring, there are still chances for a cold day or a spring shower. If your NYC getaway includes a cold or rainy day, plan on spending the day at one of the city’s museums.
Whether you’re into art or history, you have plenty of different museums from which to choose. Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Museum of Modern Art to see some of the most famous paintings in the world, or head down to lower Manhattan to visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and learn more about the most somber days in the city’s history.
New York City has an impressive skyline, and there are numerous observation decks with great views. For one of the best views in the city, head to Edge at Hudson Yards, the highest outdoor observation deck in the western hemisphere.
Atop The Edge, you can see panoramic views of the city including some of its most recognizable buildings like the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center. Thrill seekers can also take part in City Climb, an experience that lets you scale the outside of the building and lean out to look at the city below.
Weather
New York City weather starts to warm up in the spring months, but there are still chances for cold weather, especially if visiting in March. March highs are around 50°F, with lows around 34°F.
Snow isn’t out of the question either, so keep an eye on the forecast when planning your March visit and make sure to pack a warm coat and shoes with good treads.
In April and May, the temperatures are warmer, with April highs around 62°F (lows of 44°F) and May highs around 72°F (lows around 54°F). Make sure to bring a raincoat and an umbrella. You can expect around 3.5 inches of rain over 9 days for each month.
Best Way To Reach Destination
Being the largest city and one of the most popular travel destinations in the US, New York City is easy to get to from virtually anywhere in the world. The city is served by three major airports: John F. Kennedy International (JFK), LaGuardia (LGA), and Newark Liberty International Airport (LGA). Flying into any of these airports will put you a short taxi or train ride away from Manhattan.
Best Place To Stay
Sydney from A World In Reach says, “On a weekend trip to the city, staying in Manhattan will be the most convenient as you’ll be able to easily walk or take the subway to all of the attractions you want to visit. The Courtyard by Marriott Midtown West is an affordable hotel that’s a short walk from both Penn Station and Hudson Yards.”
I have been to New York City lots and lots of times. Destin, Florida
Destin, Florida is one of the best beach weekend getaways on the east cost of the USA in spring. With its sugary white sandy beaches, clear emerald green water, and pleasant weather, it offers the perfect quick escape from the stresses of everyday life.
When visiting Destin in spring, there are plenty of fun things to do. But, no matter what time of the year you go, exploring the breathtaking beaches is a must. With its gorgeous crystal-clear emerald green water and pristine white sand, Destin’s beaches are perfect for relaxing, building sand castles, or swimming.
Destin is also known as the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.” Deep-sea fishing in Destin is highly recommended and there are plenty of fishing charters readily available.
Another of the best things to do in Destin in the spring is shopping! Popular shopping spots in Destin include Destin Commons, a lively lifestyle center with a mix of national retailers and boutiques. Silver Sands Premium Outlets is an outdoor outlet mall with over 100 stores that offers a wide range of brand-name and designer stores. In addition, Grand Boulevard is a charming shopping center offering many upscale shops.
Weather
Spring is the perfect time to visit Destin before the weather becomes unbearably hot as it does in the summer. In March, the average high temperature ranges from 63°F to 70°F. In April, temperatures rise to an average high of 69°F to 76°F and in May, temperature reaches average highs around 75°F to 82°F, perfect for warm, sunny beach days and other outdoor adventures.
Best Way To Reach Destination
The closest airport to Destin is Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS). It is located approximately 16 miles and about a 25-minute drive from the beach area of Destin. Pensacola International Airport (PNS) is the closest major airport to Destin and is approximately 75 miles or a 1 hour and 20-minute drive.
You can expect around 8 days of rain each month ranging from 5.1 inches of rain in March to 3.5 inches of rain in May.
Best Place To Stay
Kim from The Traveling Swansons says, “Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa is the best hotel choice for a weekend getaway in Destin. It has amazing beachfront view rooms, an amazing pool area, convenient amenities, and great dining options.”
Denver, Colorado
Easily one of the best midweek city breaks in spring time in North America is Denver. Located in Colorado right at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, the Mile High City is a destination known for local breweries, proximity to incredible national parks (Rocky Mountain National Park is a little over an hour away!), and overall good vibes.
With great weather, don’t miss out on a quick visit to the Denver Botanic Gardens. This outdoor park can be explored in just one afternoon and has trails, water features, and even a cafe in the middle. It covers about 23 acres and is completely family-friendly.
In spring, visitors also can’t miss out on catching the sunrise at nearby Red Rocks Park & Amphitheater. This concert venue has consistently been voted #1 in the USA by multiple news outlets but also serves as an incredible Denver sunrise location. Often, you’ll get there and find others doing yoga or morning workouts.
If it is a warm day, hop around to some of Denver’s best parks like Confluence or City Park. These are great spots to relax and get some sun. After, swing by the famous Little Man Ice Cream (the shop is shaped like a milk jug!) and cool off with a tasty treat.
Weather
Most people opt to visit this city in the winter or summer, making spring the perfect shoulder season to enjoy the best weather Denver has to offer.
March has an average high of 57°F, April has an average high of 64°F, and May has an average high of 72°F. There is very little rain in March and April. In May, there is around 2 inches of rain over 7 days.
This time of year is super sunny though you may sometimes get a random flurry of snow on any given day that will be melted come afternoon thanks to the sunshine – this is Denver, after all.
Best Way To Reach Destination
To reach Denver, the best option is to fly to Denver International Airport, which has flights from all over the world. If you plan to stay downtown (which is recommended), you can take the train to Union Station near 16th Street, which is about a 40-minute ride. Shuttles are also available to downtown for about the same amount of time, as well as taxis, Ubers, and Lyfts.
Best Place To Stay
Krystianna from Delightfully Denver says, “There are many places to stay around the city, but especially in spring, consider staying downtown in LoDo near 16th Street Mall, a popular shopping street for tourists.
Because the weather is so great, you’ll be able to walk right outside and explore the center of the city. Shopping along this street and trying the chocolate at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is an absolute must-do.
The Westin Denver Downtown is right off 16th and has comparable rates to other hotels with top-notch amenities, and it’s family-friendly.”
New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans is a lively and fun city to visit on the east coast of the USA and a perfect spot for a quick getaway. With so much history and mystery, it’s both an interesting and exciting place to visit for a short holiday in the spring.
New Orleans is a magical place to explore on foot. Ditch the car and take a walk through the French Quarter. Springtime is the perfect time to meander down the iconic Bourbon Street, where the party never ends. And be sure to swing by the famous Cafe Du Monde for a mouth-watering beignet (a cross between a donut and a french pastry)!
For those more interested in exploring the nature of the city, consider taking an airboat tour of the bayou or enjoying a paddleboard or kayaking session at Bayou St. John. In all honesty, nothing beats a Creole Queen riverboat cruise.
You can’t visit New Orleans without a bit of fright! Keep things exciting with a paranormal ghost tour or a cemetery tour on a weekend in New Orleans itinerary.
Weather
Traveling throughout the South can be taxing when it comes to weather. It’s hard to know exactly what temperatures to pack for. That said, spring in New Orleans will be warm but comfortable.
March temperatures range from highs in the mid-70s to lows in the mid-50s. April sees temps in the 60s and 70s (day and night). Then, summer sneaks in during May, with highs in the mid-80s and lows in the high-60s.
There will be a bit of rain. Expect around 4.5 inches over 8 days each month so pack an umbrella.
Best Way To Reach Destination
Travelers can fly into New Orleans at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. You can pick up a taxi or Uber. In addition, there are several Greyhound bus routes from other major cities that transport visitors to the city.
Best Place To Stay
Candice from Exploring the Gulf says, “Canal Street Inn is a comfortable bed and breakfast with a great location that is close to all the action. The property is beautifully green, and there’s a spa on site too!”
New Orleans is unlike any other place in the United States. It offers a unique blend of cultures, and has laws and expectations that are very different than other major American cities. Saguro National Park, Arizona
Saguaro National Park in southern Arizona is divided into two parts: the Rincon Mountain District east of Tucson and the Tucson Mountain District to the west.
There are many exciting activities to experience at Saguaro National Park. The park is known for its breathtaking sunsets and sunrises over the saguaro cacti. To experience this sight, find a spot like Signal Hill Picnic Area or Gates Pass Overlook.
The park also offers a number of hiking trails. Some of the best include the Mica View Loop Trail, the Valley View Overlook Trail, the Signal Hill Petroglyphs, the Loma Verde Trail, and the Wasson Peak Hike. Wear sturdy shoes with solid soles and long pants to protect your feet and legs from the cactus thorns when hiking.
If you prefer to explore the park by car, loop drives are a good option. The Cactus Forest Loop Drive in the Rincon Mountain District and the Bajada Loop Drive in the Tucson Mountain District can be done in one day. You can admire vast saguaro forests and scenic desert vistas on these routes. You don’t need a four-wheel drive vehicle for these scenic drives.
Spring is a nice time to visit Saguaro National Park for several reasons. The weather in spring is pleasant, especially in March and April, with milder temperatures compared to hot summers and cold winters. Early spring is perfect time for outdoor activities, especially hiking.
Another reason to visit in spring is the blooming desert and the magnificent flowering cacti. Many desert plants, including cacti and wildflowers, begin to bloom, creating a stunning landscape of vibrant colors.
In addition, spring is a time when wildlife is especially active in Saguaro National Park. You may have the opportunity to see different species of birds and desert animals. The park is home to roadrunners, Gambel’s quail, desert tortoises, bobcats, and coyotes.
Weather
In March, the average high temperature in Saguaro ranges from 73°F, while the average low temperature ranges from 47°F to 53°F.
In April, the average maximum temperature continues to rise to 83°F, while the average minimum temperature ranges between 52°F and 59°F.
May brings warmer temperatures, with average highs ranging from 92°F and average lows of 55°F. It’s important to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun during your visit.
There is very little rain in any of these months.
Best Way To Reach Destination
Tucson International Airport (TUS) is the closest airport to the park, located about 17 miles southeast of the Tucson Mountain District. Travel time from the airport to the park is about 30 minutes. Another option is Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), which is 125 miles from Saguaro. Driving time is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes
Best Place To Stay
Agnes from The Van Escape says, “Tuscon is the best place to stay, as it’s a charming town near the park and has accommodations for every budget. Consider the Arizona Inn, the Omni Tucson National Resort, or La Posada Lodge & Casitas.”
Las Vegas, Nevada
Want to get out and explore western USA this spring? While most people will opt to visit places like California, Oregon, and Washington, don’t skip out on the beautiful desert oasis of Las Vegas, Nevada. This city might be known for its nightlife, but it’s filled with incredible daytime activities that will keep a weekend getaway jam packed.
Because the spring weather is so incredible, one of the best spring activities is to go hiking in the Valley of Fire State Park. Parts of this park close in the summer because of the heat, and everyone must see Fire Canyon at least once in their lifetime. It’s one of the best spots for hiking near Vegas.
At the New York New York Hotel, there is another must-do Vegas activity, especially first timers – a Cirque du Soleil show. NYNY is home to the Mad Apple, a show that’s a mix of comedy, acrobatics, dancing, singing, and more. You’ll be laughing and watching in awe the entire time. Book tickets in advance because it’s a popular show!
Vegas is also a destination city for foodies, thanks to the many celebrity chef restaurants throughout the Strip. Be sure to stop by at least one of them and try the food. One of the best is Hell’s Kitchen, where you can try chef Gordon Ramsay’s famous beef wellington!
Weather
Las Vegas is best visited in the springtime because the desert weather becomes unbearable in the summer months for most people (summer can see highs of 115°F and beyond). The spring boasts comfortable temperatures and cool evenings, thanks to the desert climate.
In March, enjoy an average high of 72°F. April sees the temperature jump to an average high of 80°F. Come May, expect average highs temperatures of around 90°F. In March and April, it cools down to mid 50s F in the evening, and in May, it cools down to mid 60s F. There will be little to no rain in springtime.
Best Way To Reach Destination
In order to get to Vegas, the best option is to fly into Harry Reid International Airport which is located right near the world-famous Strip. This international airport receives flights from around the world.
From the airport, you can book a 10-minute taxi, Lyft, or Uber to the Strip area. Buses are also available and take around the same amount of time.
Best Place To Stay
Krystianna from Lively Las Vegas says, “While there are many places to stay in Las Vegas, it’s best to stay directly on the Strip, though keep in mind there will be resort fees.
One of the cleanest well-maintained properties is the New York New York Hotel on the southern end of the Strip, which is right near the MGM Grand and Excalibur properties. Rooms here are family-friendly and there’s a multitude of restaurants from which to choose.”
Las Vegas is expensive. I have been many times and somehow, I am still always shocked by the cost. In addition, there are lots of hotels and restaurants from which to choose, and tons of activities that you can do. If you are looking for tips about where to stay, how to save money, how best to get around, or how to get into some of the more exclusive experiences, then check out my article 50 Best Las Vegas Tips For First Time Visitors.
When I was last in Las Vegas, I took a day trip to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. It was only 45 minutes away and yet, the scenery was so different, I felt like we had arrived in a different part of the country. If you are looking for a beautiful retreat into nature with some fantastic hikes or scenic drives, then check out Red Rock Canyon: An Easy Day Trip From Vegas.

Best Place To Stay
Phoenyx from Phoenyx Rises says, “Experience luxury and comfort at the Inn at the Biltmore, situated within the Biltmore Estate. Revel in impeccable service, spacious rooms, and stunning mountain views. Indulge in fine dining at the hotel’s acclaimed restaurant, unwind at the spa, and soak in the serene atmosphere. The Inn at the Biltmore guarantees an extraordinary spring getaway.”
Chicago, Illnois
Chicago gets a bad rep for its bitter winters and “Windy City” misnomer, but each spring, as the architecture boat tours kick off and city parks begin to bloom, the city comes alive. Whether you are planning a girls trip to Chicago, or a family weekend away, spring is one of the best times to visit Chicago for a quick stay.
St Patrick’s Day kicks off the unofficial start of spring. Although temperatures can still be cold, the energy is palpable as the city de-thaws from a long winter. Viewers line the bridges and Riverwalk to watch the river dyed bright green. For optimal viewing, head to either the Michigan Avenue, State Street, or Columbus Drive bridges.
Many bars throughout the city offer drink packages to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. For drinks with the best view of the river, check out LondonHouse Chicago. Even if you don’t make it for St Patrick’s Day, LondonHouse is always worth the view.
In early April, the Cubs will pitch their season opener at Wrigley Field. Chicago is a baseball town at heart and fans flock in hopeful anticipation of the season ahead. For a uniquely Chicago experience, get tickets in the general admission bleachers in the outfield. Keep your head up for any home run balls, and don’t leave Wrigley without trying a Chicago-style hot dog.
By May, tens of thousands of tulips bloom along Michigan Avenue’s infamous Magnificent Mile. Begin your journey down the Mag Mile at Chicago’s historic Water Tower. From there, head south to shop your way down to the river.
Just past the Wrigley Building you can catch an architecture tour. The absolute best way to see the city and learn about its rich architectural history is by boat. Be sure to book tickets in advance and dress in layers in the spring.
My husband is from Chicago. We have visited probably 40 times over the years – sometimes as a couple and sometimes with our four kids. There are lots of amazing things to do there. For some fantastic suggestions, please see my article 22 Best Things In Downtown Chicago.
Weather
Weather can be unpredictable and varies from averages in the 40s in March to the 70s in May. You can still get a bit of snow in March. In April and May, expect around 3.0 inches of rain over 9 days in each month.
Best Way To Reach Destination
Chicago is incredibly accessible and offers many direct flights into Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). Traffic can be as unpredictable as the spring weather, so your best bet (and cheapest option) will be to take the Chicago ‘L’ train from the airport downtown. It should take around 45 minutes to the Loop, Chicago’s central downtown district.
Best Place To Stay
Anjelique from Quick Stays And Getaways says, “Stay in a piece of Chicago’s living history at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. This former sports club features Cindy’s rooftop bar with views of Millennium Park and the Game Room bar that’s a must-do in case of rain on a spring getaway to Chicago.”
Santa Barbara, California
For the perfect beach mini holiday on the west coast in spring, make your way to Santa Barbara, California. Soak up the sun as you enjoy the gorgeous beaches, stunning Mediterranean and Spanish-inspired architecture, and amazing restaurants and wineries.
During your visit, you’ll want to explore pedestrian-friendly State Street, which cuts through Downtown Santa Barbara and takes you all the way to the beach. This palm-tree lined street is the heart of the city, and is home to some of the top restaurants, bars, and shops.
Just a couple blocks off State Street is the picturesque and beautifully landscaped Santa Barbara County Courthouse, a Spanish-Colonial style courthouse that dates back to 1929.
Once you’ve explored Downtown Santa Barbara, take State Street down to West Beach. While the weather may not be quite warm enough for jumping in the Pacific Ocean, you can still take a stroll down Stearns Wharf to take in the views of the coast.
For wine enthusiasts, Santa Barbara County has a lot to offer. Consider heading up to the Santa Ynez Valley, where there are over 200 wineries set against a backdrop of beautiful rolling hills. After enjoying a winery or two, make a quick visit to Solvang, where you can grab a bite to eat and stroll through the charming small town before making your way back to Downtown Santa Barbara.
Alternatively, if you’d prefer to stay in town, you can head to The Funk Zone. This is Santa Barbara’s arts and culture district, and is home to many wine tasting rooms, as well as breweries and bars.
Weather
In the spring, the weather in Santa Barbara is pleasant, with the temperatures ranging around the high 60s and low 70s during the day. It’s possible you’ll run into some rain (especially in early spring), but the overwhelming majority of days are warm and sunny.
Best Way To Reach Destination
Santa Barbara is about a 2-hour drive north of LAX (the closest major airport). Those traveling from the western US may also be able to find flights into Santa Barbara Airport, a regional airport that is a 15-minute drive west of Downtown Santa Barbara.
Best Place To Stay
Kyra from Sea To Sequoia says, “There are plenty of great hotels in the area, but one particularly excellent option is Palihouse. This boutique hotel is conveniently located just a couple blocks off State Street, and has a pool on-site.
A more budget-friendly option is Agave Inn, which is about a 10-minute drive from downtown Santa Barbara.”
Nashville, Tennessee
Music City, also known as Nashville, Tennessee, is for sure one of the best places to go in southern USA in spring if you only have a few days to spare. This hometown of country music is buzzing year-round, but is especially enjoyable to visit during this season of milder temperatures.
One of the best things to do in Nashville in spring is to participate in the city’s annual Cherry Blossom Festival. The Festival takes place in April to celebrate both the arrival of spring as well as Japanese culture.
Another great way to enjoy Nashville in spring is to go bar hopping along Lower Broadway. Plenty of venues here feature live country music and even some dancing. You can easily spend an entire afternoon or evening taking it all in with the lively atmosphere.
