Brno is the largest city in the Czech Republic in Eastern Europe. It is one of the best places to spend time in September in Europe. If you are looking to get away from the busy streets of Prague, Brno can give you a similar experience but without the crowds.
There are plenty of things to do in Brno, starting with exploring the Old Town, which has many hidden corners. Consider a visit to the Old Town Hall. First built in 1240, with buildings later added in the 15th, 16th and 18th century, it is the oldest surviving secular building in the city. It is home to several stunning points of interest, starting with the “Brno dragon” which hangs on its ceiling, the wheel which sits on the wall, and the crooked spires on the façade. In addition, you can climb up the 200 ft (63-metre) tower to enjoy an impressive view of Brno.
Next to the Town Hall, you will find the cabbage market, where local producers gather every day to sell the freshest fruits and vegetables, flowers, and artisan products.
If you are taking a day trip to Brno, do not miss visiting Villa Tugendhat, viewed as a pioneering prototype of modern architecture in Europe. Annecy is known as the “Venice of France”. Take a walking tour and see one of the more beautiful places in Europe with its flower-lined canals that lead into the most stunning lake with mountains on the other side.

Porto, Portugal

Porto, set in the northern region of Portugal ,is often overlooked by many first-time travelers to the country in favor of Lisbon, the capital, and the southern sandy beaches and towns of the Algarve. However, if you’re planning a September holiday in Europe, you may want to consider adding the gorgeous city of Porto to your travel itinerary.
Not only is Porto one of the most beautiful places in Europe featuring stunning old-world architecture, delicious Portuguese cuisine, and plenty of exciting attractions, it is also the gateway to the famous Douro Valley wine region of Portugal, found 1.5 hours drive from the city.
The Douro Valley region is in full harvest from around mid-September. This is the best time to visit this part of the country with the changing colors of the vineyard leaves creating a colorful autumn tapestry across the rolling hills of the Douro. Book a tour and relax on a day trip into the region. If you can, try and visit towns such as Lamego and Pinhão.

Munich, Germany

September is the best time to visit Munich for a late summer getaway. With cold weather on the horizon, but mild summer temperatures still lingering, there are plenty of opportunities to explore. In addition, the world renowned Oktoberfest Festival begins.
Take a walk around the city center, grab a pretzel, and see Marienplatz, the town hall that has been the center of the city since 1158. If you time your visit right, you can catch the show at the Glockenspiel, where little characters ring the bells at 11 AM, 12 PM, and 5 PM every day.
On the western side of the city, you can visit Nymphenburg Palace, one of many beautiful royal palaces in Germany. You can spend the afternoon exploring the gardens filled with art that has been modeled after the Palace of Versailles in France.
Alternatively, consider day trips and visit the famous Neuschwanstein castle, which some call the Snow White Castle. It’s a beautiful building with a postcard worthy view that is a must-see if you’re in the Bavaria region. The region is also great for hiking and September being the perfect time for it.

Turin is located in Northern Italy and it’s the capital of the Piedmont region. What many people don’t know is that it was the first capital of Italy. Needless to say, it breathes a rich history, has incredible buildings and delicious food.
Turin and its surroundings have over 10 royal palaces and residences open for visitors, most of them are UNESCO World Heritage sites. In addition to exploring the royal palaces, make sure that you leave time to walk in the royal gardens.

Kobarid is a small town in the Soca Valley in Slovenia. September is the best time of year to visit to enjoy beautiful autumn colors, fewer crowds, and lovely weather.
Kobarid is a small historical village and fantastic home base for day trips for many outdoor activities. The Kobarid Historical trail is a four mile long loop trail. It is an easy hike with some steep parts that lead across forest landscapes around the Soca River and WWI landmarks, such as the Italian Charnel House.
For anyone who is looking for more adventure, whitewater rafting is one of the most popular attractions in the Soca Valley.
Another popular activity that Kobarid offers is cycling. You can rent a bicycle from one of the sport shops in the town square. There are various medium to long distance self guided tours that let you discover more small villages in the region. You can find bicycle maps either online or at the tourist office in town.

The park has 3 entrances and at every entrance, you can find white bikes. They are free to use, and there are 1800 of them in adult and kids sizes. There are many biking lanes in the National Park, so it’s a perfect way to explore it.
Stop at the Kröller-Müller museum which holds the second largest Van Gogh collection in the world, as well as many other beautiful art pieces.
Another fun thing to do is to go on a guided safari on foot with a ranger to spot the big four: mouflon, red deer, wild boar and deer.

Lagos is a small city in the Algarve, Portugal. It’s known for its historic center with cobblestone streets and plazas, as well as its restaurants, churches, and proximity to beaches. While there’s plenty to do in and around Lagos, it’s also a convenient destination from which to explore many of the Algarve’s iconic landmarks.
It is also one of the most beautiful beach vacation destinations in September. September marks the end of peak season in the Algarve. Accordingly, there are fewer crowds which can make for a more relaxed experience.
While in Lagos, be sure to spend time exploring the city’s historic center. You’ll find Igreja de Santo António, a church which was originally built in 1707. It’s a Portuguese National Monument, known for its baroque gilded woodwork decoration.

Just outside of Lagos is Ponta da Piedade, a cluster of rock formations that rise up to 20 meters above the ocean. The rock formations create natural arches, caves, and towers that make for beautiful coastal views of the Algarve coast.
You can climb down 200 steps to water level or take a boat cruise for a different perspective of the rock formations. This famous spot is a 35 minute walk (or 10 minute drive) from Lagos.

The area consists of four lakes: Grabensee, Mattsee, Obertrumer See and Wallersee. The best way to explore them is by bike as the area is reasonably flat, compared to some other parts of Austria. The local tourist office will be able to give you a free bike map that shows you the routes.

The small town is very busy with tourists and celebrities in summer. It’s the fanciest beach destination in France, reputed for wild parties and big yachts in the harbour. The main road to Saint Tropez is often packed during peak season, making it frustrating to explore the nearby region with beautiful villages and lovely wineries.
But it really calms down in September, and the atmosphere changes to let visitors enjoy the beautiful town by the sea and the surrounding areas. Don’t miss the splendid views from the Citadel and try local products in the shops around the old town.
