Is it a good hiking shoe?
The men’s Adidas Terrex Swift R2 GTX is available in a mid hiking boot or standard hiking shoe. The mid hiking boot style of these Adidas hiking boots provides more support around the ankle area whereas the Adidas hiking shoes have a sneaker shape.
The Adidas Terrex Swift R2 GTX and more recent version, Adidas Terrex Swift R3 GTX, are essentially the same shoes. Both are comfortable and lightweight and one of the best Adidas hiking shoes for hiking on medium trails. They offer trail running technology with core hiking features.
The mid boot option is better if you intend to carry heavy loads on rougher terrain as it provides more support and structure for your foot. Gore-Tex does the job of keeping water out of your Adidas hiking shoes and letting your feet breathe. The continental rubber outsoles give excellent grip in wet and dry conditions and protection against injury from walking on sharp objects.

Is it a good hiking shoe?
The Adidas Terrex AX3 is available in various colors in both men’s and women’s sizes. You can choose between Adidas hiking boots (men) with a mid-boot (ankle support) or Adidas hiking shoes with the classic sneaker styling.
The Adidas Terrex AX3 is an excellent Adidas hiking shoe because it has many of the features you need. The continental rubber outsole with Traxion gives excellent grip on all surfaces and in wet conditions. The torsion bar prevents unwelcome flexing in the midfoot. The hiking boot has gore-tex so it is waterproof and breathable whereas the hiking shoe has a water-resistant and breathable mesh upper.
The downside is the broad heel – ideal if you are a larger hiker and need the extra stability but not so useful for “normal” walkers who would benefit from a rocking heel for forwarding propulsion.

The latest development for Adidas is energy return or BOOST foam. This product developed by BASF for Adidas aims to return more energy to the walker.
A traditional EVA foam midsole loses half the impact energy in generating heat and noise when your foot slaps into the ground. The other half is returned to you to put a “spring” in your step. The new BOOST foam aims to return 70% of your energy as rebound energy.
